BRADFORD AND DISTRICT 14 – 19 ON-LINE PROSPECTUS
www.bradford4learning.com

Bradford’s on-line Prospectus is a crucial part of supporting the delivery of the new 14-19 curriculum. It went ‘live’ with every other Local Authority Prospectus in October 2007. The Prospectus will enable improved quality of information and choice of learning opportunities for all young people which will equip them with the skills for employment, further or higher learning and for wider social and community engagement.
Bradford chose to develop its own software to meet present and future requirements and it is a constantly evolving, supportive tool. Anne Weston has been seconded to manage the project for its first two years on behalf of the Bradford Confederations Executive. (anne.weston@careersb.co.uk Tel: 01274 829400)
The DCSF has consulted with all stakeholders on the vision for the prospectuses and what it needs to deliver in the future.
Vision Statement
By 2010 the 14-19 area prospectus will be learners’ first choice of information for accessing all 14-19 learning opportunities. The prospectuses will be used in conjunction with guidance professionals to enable young people (supported by their parents) to make informed choices about where and how they would like to undertake their learning. The prospectus will enable learners to easily select and submit applications for learning courses and programmes. The prospectus, containing an integrated Common Application Process (CAP) and Individual Learning Plan (ILP), will be a primary enabler for the local implementation of Diplomas and will closely support the wider 14-19 reform programme. Through accurate and timely management information generated from the area prospectus, 14-19 partnerships will better align local learning provision with demand, enabling the implementation of the September Guarantee and provide opportunities to improve the management of disengaged learners.

In order to take Bradford through the stages of development and keep stakeholders consulted and informed, a development group has been convened to ensure that there is opportunity to discuss the progress at each stage to meet need. There is an open invitation to attend and contribute to the discussions.
The Quality Standards for Young People’s Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) (DCSF 2007) specifically refers to the Prospectus as a tool to ensure that young people have the information they need to make well-informed and realistic decisions about learning and careers. Local Celebrities Support 14-19 Online Prospectus Launch
The official launch of the Bradford and District on-line prospectus, bradford4learning.com, took place at the University of Bradford on Thursday 7th February, opened by Lesley Hart, the Director for School Improvement from Education Bradford.
In particular, the launch gave thanks to nearly sixty young people from all across the district who gave their time to help choose the visual style of the website and test the navigation design. They were presented with a certificate and gift from Bradford Bull’s players, James Evans and Chris Feather. Bradford Bulls are committed to encouraging local young people to get involved with local initiatives, particularly relating to educational success.
A second key guest was local celebrity, Luke Bayer (16) from South Craven who made it down to the last six guys on last year’s X-factor and was one of the lucky ones who stayed at Dannii Minogue’s villa in Ibiza. Luke spoke of his TV experience and how the Bradford Prospectus is helping him make his choices for his future career after his GCSEs this summer.
