Learning and Teaching - STEM
Stem Partnerships
|
STEM Partnerships (formerly known as Regional STEM Support Centres) provide a 2-way communication channel for access to, and advice about, regional activities and events. If you are perhaps looking for ideas for a Science Week activity, an end of term project activity, contacts for links with science and industry - then this is the place to start.
|
On the website, information can found through an online directory in the Schemes, Activities and Projects section which also includes links to other existing useful supportive websites (since there’s no point in re-inventing what already exists!). There are details of curriculum links included and case studies will be added.
|
If the website does not provide the detail you require or you want to discuss potential ideas then the STEM Communication Manager for your region should be your first point of contact for advice regarding regional activity and opportunities.
Go to www.stemcentres.org.uk for full details. |
Stem Advisory Forum
|
The STEM Advisory Forum is an opportunity for all those interested in the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to contribute their views on the STEM agenda.
|
"The Government aims to develop a strong supply of scientists, engineers and technologists by achieving a 'step change' in:
- The quality of science teachers and lecturers in every school, college and university;
- The results for students studying science at GCSE level;
- The numbers choosing STEM subjects in post-16 education and in higher education (HE);
- The proportion of better qualified students pursuing Research and Development Careers;
- The proportion of ethnic minority and women participants in HE.
The Government's STEM Programme works towards a number of priorities set out in the 'Science and Innovation Investment Framework 2004-2014' and the subsequent 'Next Steps'. Policy responsibility for these commitments currently lies across a number of directorates within DCSF and DIUS.
The STEM High Level Strategy Group - with senior membership from across DCSF, DIUS and external stakeholders - provides strategic advice to help the Government to drive forward its commitments for improving the supply of STEM skills." (http://www.stemforum.org.uk/?page_id=81) |
The Aims of the STEM Advisory Forum are:
- to ensure that members of the wider STEM community can contribute their views and advice on policy formulation and delivery to the STEM Strategic Group.
- to promote the importance of STEM subjects in supplying scientists, technologists and engineers to support the UK and regional economy
- to create an opportunity for STEM professionals to explore and address common issues for support, development, enhancement and enrichment
- to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership in the region
|
The STEM Forum will provide:
- an on-going consultation opportunity for the benefit of the wider stakeholders to have their issues and concerns debated
- an opportunity for policy makers to consulate a wider group of STEM professionals in a coordinated way
